Rams reward season's stars

Ramsbottom United's annual Presentation Night and Sportsmans' Dinner had a distinctly Yorkshire flavor, and it wasn't just the pudding accompaniment to the roast beef, writes Tony Cunningham.

More than a hundred guests were treated to a night of entertainment by the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Rams, with former Hull City striker Dean Windass joining comedian Pete Emmett from Halifax on stage.

Windass regaled the audience with tales of his long career in both England and Scotland, adding a few cautionary tales on life after a football before the Rams handed out their playing accolades.

Ramsbottom United Chairman Harry Williams announced new plans for new improvements at the Riverside Stadium before thanking the players, coaches and the First Division North club's management team of Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley for their efforts, hailing a season that saw them secure a sixth place finish and narrowly miss out on the play-offs in their first Evo-Stik NPL campaign as 'exceptional'.

Joint manager Johnson handed out the season’s accolades, striker Jon Robinson collecting the Clubman of the Year honour for his 26 goals in 40 games, pictured. Robinson's strike partner Lee Gaskell took home the Supporters' Player of the Year award for the 32 strikes in 46 appearances that also earned him a place in the NPL's 2013 First Division North Team of the Year.

Defender Danny Warrender was named Players’ Player of the Year after winning the vote of the Rams’ squad for his non-stop enthusiasm and effort.
