Rogers, who won the Championship with Nottingham Forest in 1998 after signing from Tranmere Rovers for £2.5 million, was named on Monday morning as the successor to Tommy Lawson following his departure on Friday after a decade at the helm of the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club.
The Liverpool-born 40-year-old, pictured, was most recently working as a youth team coach at Burnley after moving into management as assistant-manager at Sligo Rovers alongside Micky Adams followed by a spell as his number two at Tranmere Rovers, where he was also caretaker-manager in 2015.
As well as making more than 200 appearances for Nottingham Forest, Rogers also played on loan at Hull City and Wigan Athletic during a career stretching back over two decades to 1995 and his 57 appearances in two seasons for Tranmere.
Lawson left the West Lancashire College Stadium with his side propping of the table on 16 points having won just three games all season.
Appointed as the successor to Paul Gallagher for the 2006-07 season, he led the club to promotion to the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight after five consecutive play-off finishes in his first five seasons. Along the way, Lawson developed a long line of Non-League graduates for the pro game including the likes of Craig Noone, Ben Tolitt and Sean McConville.
Reserve manager Dom Finnigan and assistant manager Tony Sullivan also left at the weekend before Skem's clash with Spennymoor Town was postponed. Rogers is set to take charge for the first time on Saturday in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight for his new side's trip to fourth-placed Whitby Town.
