Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Lancaster City`s hopes of stretching their lead in EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division North were foiled by the weather as their game at Prescot Cables was one of two called off on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Ossett Town made the most of the Dolly Blues` inactivity to win 1-0 at Ingfield against fellow top five contenders Glossop North End to move to second spot and within three points of the leaders, Steve Ridley`s goal 7 minutes into the second half proving decisive.

Trafford slipped up though, being held to a 2-2 home draw by Clitheroe and are now third.

It could have been worse for home side, however, as the Blues led 2-0 with goals from Bradley Carroll after 16 minutes and Dimitri Tuanzebe on 23 minutes. Josh Granite reduced the arrears after 38 minutes and then Andy Langford equalised from the penalty spot 15 minutes from time.

Farsley Celtic moved level on points with Trafford in fourth after they won a fiery West Yorkshire derby against Brighouse Town 3-2 at Throstle Nest, thanks to a dramatic late winner.

Recent signing Ben Wharton put Brighouse ahead after just eight minutes but Celtic turned round 2-1 ahead after goals from Richard Marshall on 27 minutes and Ryan Watson seven minutes before the break.

Brighouse were reduced to ten-men on the hour-mark when Jack Stockdill saw red but an Aidan Savory own goal pulled the ten-men level after 74 minutes. They weren`t able to hold on though as James Walshaw won it for Farsley six minutes from time.

Scarborough Athletic complete the top five after they beat Ossett Albion 2-1 at Queensgate in front of 321.

Jacob Hazel gave Boro a 19th minute lead and James Eyles` 62nd minute equaliser looked as though it was going to be enough for a point until Cameron Murray won it for Boro three minutes from time.

Colne remain in top five contention after a good 3-0 win at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium against Ramsbottom United.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Colne took a 57th minute lead from a Mark Ayres` penalty and quickly doubled that through Ollie Wood four minutes later. Jason Hart rounded things off with a third for the visitors 15 minutes from time.

Goals from Dan Thirkell after 31 minutes, Erico Sousa on 62 minutes and Josh Greening 14 minutes from time steered Tadcaster Albion to their first home league victory since mid-October against second-bottom Goole AFC.

Elsewhere, Hyde United earned Tameside bragging rights after a 4-1 win at Seel Park against neighbours Mossley AFC.

Goals from Paddy Miller and Matt Dempsey had the Tigers 2-0 up by the 12th minute before James Blair pulled one back for the Lilywhites on the half-hour mark. Lawrie Hunter restored Hyde`s two-goal cushion three minutes later, an advantage extended to three six minutes into the second half by Matthew Beadle.

Kendal Town went nap at home to another Tameside club in Droylsden at Parkside.

Recent loan signing Steve Yawson helped himself to a debut hat-trick in the 25th, 46th and 52nd minutes, with Matt Dudley and an Adanomi Samuels own goal completing the scoring in the last 10 minutes.

And bottom-markers Burscough are now ten points behind third-bottom Prescot after losing 3-1 at home to Bamber Bridge, despite leading through Phil Bannister`s 32nd minute effort.

Aaron Fleming equalised 10 minutes after the break and then Phil Doughty and Regan Linney won it for Brig in the final seven minutes.
