Newcastle Town reduced the gap at the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South table to just two points after a 2-0 home win against Sheffield FC on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Josh Gordon gave Castle the lead four minutes into the second half and then Jordan Cole made sure with a second 19 minutes from time.

Third met fourth at the Nantpan Ground where troubled Loughborough Dynamo went down to a 4-2 defeat to neighbours Gresley FC.

The hosts found themselves three-down inside 14 minutes to goals from Mitch Hanson from the penalty spot and a Luke Edwards brace. But they pulled two back through Nathan Watson after 50 minutes and Alvin Jarvis on 63, only for Edwards to complete his hat-trick six minutes later.

Stafford Rangers complete the top five after they beat Rainworth Miners Welfare 3-0 at Marston Road, courtesy of strikes from Chris Dacres and a Dan Cope double – all in the final 17 minutes.

Bottom-markers Kidsgrove Athletic were beaten 3-1 at Carlton Town, who took 64 minutes to break the visitors down through Jamie Walker.

Alex Troke added a second four minutes later and Aaron Hooton made it game over with number three six minutes from time – Lee Thompson scoring a last-gasp consolation.

Spalding United grabbed a 2-1 win at the Sir Halley Stewart Fields against Coalville Town.

Andy Tidswell gave the Tulips the lead three minutes before half-time. Craig Marshall equalised on 63 minutes, but parity lasted barely six minutes as Tom Waumsley restored Spalding`s lead – a lead they held on to.

Elsewhere, second-bottom Market Drayton Town earned a late point at Goole AFC, thanks to an 80th minute James Askey effort after Andy Gascoigne had bagged a brace for the Vikings – Will Whielden sandwiching Drayton`s second.

Lincoln United made it five successive wins in beating Romulus 2-1 at Coles Lane with goals from Andy Hutchinson after 41 minutes and Kallum Smith five minutes after the break – James Reid responding on the hour-mark.

Brigg Town and Chasetown shared a goalless draw at The Hawthorns, while Harrison Biggins put Stocksbridge Park Steels in front after 10 minutes at Bracken Moor, only for Zach Foster to earn Tividale a point from the spot just past the hour-mark.
