Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Warrington Town made it sixteen league games unbeaten on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Mossley AFC at the HG Driver Recruitment Stadium to stay five points clear at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

After a blistering start, Warrington took the lead when a Scott Metcalfe cross was hammered in off the underside of the bar by leading goal scorer Ben Wharton after 7=seven minutes.

The Wire created a number of other chances but couldn't score before the visitors were on level terms after their first attack and shot, the lively Andy Keogh firing home on 15 minutes. But Warrington were eventually back in front when Ciaran Kilheeney slotted the ball home from 10 yards out to make it 2-1 on the half-hourmark.

Keogh found the back of the net to make it 2-2 at half-time before the leaders took the lead for the third time on the hour-mark when Kilheeney got his second shortly after Metcalfe had blasted a free-kick over the bar.

Curzon Ashton maintained the pressure in second after a 3-1 win against Kendal Town at the Tameside Stadium.

In a strange game, the Cumbrians led through Rob Wilson`s 27th minute effort until the 70th minute when the home side scored three times in three minutes!

The game had changed when Danny McGahon was shown a second yellow card early in the second half. Matty Warburton eventually equalised on 70 minutes and then Ryan Brooke and Ryan Watson quickly made it 3-1.

Bamber Bridge are third after a 2-1 win at Irongate against third-bottom Wakefield.

Brig got off to a great start when Danny Truman put through his own goal after only four minutes. But Rob Bordman levelled just before half-time, and the winner eventually arrived from Tom Williams with 20 minutes to go.

Farsley AFC are fourth after a 4-2 success at Moor Lane against Salford City.

Matty James gave the Yorkshire side a sixth minute lead that Richard Smith cancelled out three minutes later. Adam Priestley – fresh from representing Gibraltar against Slovakia in the week – added a second for the visitors six minutes before half-time and then Paddy Miller on 64 minutes and Danny Hull on 84, put Farsley out of reach, although Mark Battersby did manage a spot-kick reply five minutes from time.

Lancaster City complete the top five after edging out Northwich Victoria 1-0 at the Giant Axe, Mark Jackson's 54th minute effort proving enough for the Dolly Blues.

Ramsbottom United hammered Burscough 7-1 at the Riverside – and missed a penalty too! Danny Warrender gave Rammy an eight minute lead only for Jordan Williams to level on 27 minutes.

But Lee Gaskell, Joel Pilkington and Warrender again, scored three more in eight minutes just before the break to make it 4-1. Grant Spencer then bagged a brace and Phil Dean one as Rammy ran out 7-1 winners, although Dean missed the chance to make it eight when he shot over from the spot.

Darlington 1883 are just outside the play-off zone after a 4-1 win at home against out-of-form Ossett Town.

Stephen Thompson gave the Quakers a 10th minute lead that Terry Galbraith doubled on 28 minutes and Jonathan Davis added to two minutes later..Callum Ward did manage to reduce the arrears just before half-time with Amar Purewal scoring the only goal of a quieter second period with five minutes to go.

Clitheroe are seventh now after a 4-0 home win against Radcliffe Borough.

Scott Bakkor put the Blues ahead from the spot after 22 minutes and Sean Miller added a second 10 minutes later. Lloyd Dean made it 3-0 eight minutes after the restart and after Bakkor`s second on 63 minutes to make it 4-0 it was all over.

Harrogate Railway Athletic are a creditable eighth after edging out Prescot Cables 2-1 at Station View.

It was 0-0 at the break before Colin Hunter gave Railway the lead from the penalty spot five minutes into the second period. Rob Doran levelled on the hour-mark but Nathan Cartman popped up with the home side's winner with 19 minutes left to play.

New Mills and Cammell Laird both recorded away victories - the Millers winning 2-1 at Padiham, courtesy of a Michael Fish brace in the sixth and 75th minutes – the second from the spot – with Dominic Craig replying seven minutes from time.

Laird won 2-0 at bottom-markers Ossett Albion, thanks to goals from Craig Cairns after 33 minutes and Jamie Henders six minutes into the second half.
