Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Saturday's big game in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division North saw leaders Lancaster City strengthen their position with a 3-1 win at Queensgate over fifth-placed Scarborough Athletic, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

In front of a crowd of 361, Ryan Winder after 10 minutes, Louis Mayers on the half-hour mark and Jordan Connerton on 37 minutes, had the Dolly Blues well in command. Adam Bolder`s 63rd minute penalty reply mean that Boro `won` the second half, but it wasn`t enough as the damage had already been done.

And to make City`s day even better, second-placed Trafford could only draw and third-placed Ossett Town were beaten at home. Luke Daly gave Droylsden the lead right on half-time at Trafford, whose Mark Derbyshire equalised on 68 minutes.

And at Ingfield, Oliver Wood put visiting Colne in front just before half-time. But Nosakhare Aghayere`s 64th minute own goal restored parity, and a draw looked likely until Mark Ayres popped up with Colne`s winner in stoppage time.

Bottom-side Burscough recorded only their fourth win of the season to date in beating Brighouse Town 2-1 at the Victoria Stadium.

Callum Mahoney gave the Linnets a great start with a goal inside six minutes. Tom Dugdale pulled Town back on level terms just five minutes later, and that was the end of the scoring until the very last minute when Elliott Nevitt won it for Burscough.

Burscough`s third-bottom neighbours Prescot Cables also enjoyed themselves at Valerie Park, going nap against the team immediately above them, Ossett Albion.

Chris Almond and Dominic Marie both bagged braces for Cables, with Dominic Reid adding the fifth five minutes from time.

In contrast, Tadcaster Albion and Colwyn Bay couldn`t manage a goal between them, while there was only one at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium where Adam Kay`s 76th minute penalty won the game for hosts Ramsbottom United against Bamber Bridge.
