Saturday's Premier Division action review

EVO-STIK League

There were only four games in the EVO-STIK League's Premier Division on Saturday with the FA Cup playing but they produced sixteen goals between them, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Performance of the day came from bottom-markers Belper Town, whose caretaker boss Jon Froggatt played a major part both on and off the field.

Rob Stevenson gave the Nailers a ninth minute lead at Christchurch Meadow against Witton Albion. Stevenson bagged his second in the 27th minute and new manager Froggatt added a third less than two minutes later and another four minutes after that. The second half was a less frenetic affair, Bruno Holden scoring the only goal to make it a nap hand with three minutes to go.

The 5-0 win still wasn't enough to take Belper off the foot of the table, but it brought them level on points with the two sides immediately above them, including neighbours Matlock Town who suffered a 1-0 defeat at Causeway Lane after Dale Hopson grabbed a 32 minute winner for Whitby Town

Frickley Athletic moved out of the bottom four after preventing in-form Ramsbottom United from going into the top four after a 4-2 win at Westfield Lane.

And Frickley had to come back from being 2-0 down to win after Jon Robinson from the spot after 22 minutes and then Nelson Mota after 39 minutes, gave Rammy their interval advantage. Danny South reduced the arrears after 57 minutes and then equalised with 20 minutes to go. Three minutes later John Cyrus put the Blues in front for the first time, and then South completed his hat-trick to confirm victory in the 81st minute.

Trafford leap-frogged Nantwich Town into tenth place after a 4-0 home success.

Shelton Payne scored the only goal of the opening half to give Trafford the lead. Michael Oates added number two just five minutes into the second half and Payne made it virtually game over with a third on 67 minutes. And just three minutes later, Payne completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot.
