Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Altrincham now require five points from their remaining five matches to clinch the EVO-STIK Leagu's top flight title following a 4-0 win against Barwell at Moss Lane on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And the fact that the Robins possess a massive goal difference as well gives them an even bigger cushion. Barwell did have their chances before Alty hit them with two goals in two minutes just before the break from Shaun Densmore and Josh Hancock.

John Johnston added a third just two minutes after the break and a fourth from Jordan Hulme on the hour-mark killed the game off as a contest.

Warrington Town returned to winning ways and are ten points in front of sixth-placed Shaw Lane AFC, who still have a massive six games to play.

Warrington won 2-0 at Throstle Nest against another of the play-off contenders, Farsley Celtic, whose five-game unbeaten run came to an end, Will Hayhurst after 22 minutes and Sean Williams nine minutes after the break, on target for the visitors.

Grantham Town re-claimed third spot after they won 2-0 at Workington AFC and Ashton United were held to a 1-1 draw by second-bottom Halesowen Town.

Andy Wright after 34 minutes and then Lee Shaw in stoppage time at the end of the game sealed the Gingerbreads win at Borough Park, while Roland Agbor's goal 20 minutes from time looked like being the Yeltz's winner, until Liam Tomsett popped up in time added on for Ashton.

Shaw Lane's incredible schedule could ruin their promotion hopes and a goalless draw at Sheerien Park against mid-table Lancaster City left them four points behind Farsley with three games in hand and still facing six matches in eleven days!

Witton Albion's top five hopes all-but disappeared when they lost 2-1 at Wincham Park against mid-table Stafford Rangers.

Rangers led through Rob Thompson-Brown`s early second minute strike and a Jack Sherratt effort five minutes before half-time, with Steven Tames' penalty reply not coming until three minutes from time.

Elsewhere, Harry Limb bagged a brace as Matlock Town enjoyed a good day at the seaside to beat Whitby Town 3-0 – Michael Williams adding a late third.

Liam Tongue did likewise for Marine AFC at Coalville Town, whose Kyle Bryant had given them an early 6th minute lead. Tongue bagged his brace in the 34th and 63rd minutes and Michael Brewster added a third seven minutes later, with Alex Howes netting a stoppage time second for the Ravens.

Gurjit Singh and Danny Waldron were on target for Rushall Olympic in the first half at the Weaver Stadium against Nantwich Town, whose Harry Clayton replied 6 minutes into the second half in a 2-1 away win.

Paul McCone, Luke Benbow and Nic Carnat with two scored for Stourbridge as they beat Stalybridge Celtic 4-1 at the War Memorial Ground, Celtic`s reply coming in stoppage time from Harrison Holgate.

Already-relegated Sutton Coldfield Town were able to relax and enjoy themselves in a 4-1 Coles Lane romp against Hednesford Town, thanks to Karl Hawley's brace which topped and tailed goals from Justin Richards and Lee Smith – Anthony Dwyer replying from the spot for the Pitmen.

Mickleover Sports and Buxton shared a 2-2 draw in which Andy Dales gave the home side a 14th minute lead that Nic Degirolamo levelled five minutes after the break. Player boss John McGrath restored Sports` lead five minutes later before Anthony Wilson equalised nine minutes from time.
