Spotlight on Storks in Saturday's Sun!

Padiham

When striker Brett Ormerod joined them in the EVO-STIK League, Padiham fans knew he'd help raise the club's profile.

They weren't wrong. On Saturday, the Storks are featuring in the 'Goals' section of The Sun, still Britain's best selling daily, after the paper turned up at their Arbories Memorial Sports Ground in midweek to find out what persuaded the 37-year-old former Southampton, Blackpool, Preston North End and Wrexham forward to carry on playing.

And the welcome coverage for Padiham on the realities of modern football outside the top flight and far away from Sky's cameras doesn't stop there. An online version of the story was published on Friday night on the paper's website which is seen by millions of fans around the world following the English game every day.

With the Sun's team present, the Storks came from behind on Wednesday night to draw 2-2 in First Division North with Ossett Town after grabbing a last minute equaliser. Ormerod will get another chance to show why he was right to keep his shooting boots on Saturday when Padiham host Northwich Victoria.

Ormerod was a free agent when he left Wrexham in April and is the only player to have scored in all four of the top divisions of English football. He hasn't taken long to achieve the same feat in Non-League's top tiers since signing for manager Steve Wilkes in September, pictured.

After scoring for Accrington Stanley more than a decade ago when they were working their way back to the Football League, he bagged his first Step 4 goal for the club against Burscough in only his second outing.
