Tribute trophy delivers first donation

The British Heart Foundation and East Midlands Ambulance Service are £1000 better off after picking up their first donations from the DW Charity Fund.

The Wheatleys are handing over the proceeds of last summer's inaugural tribute fixture at the Midland Alliance outfit, staged in memory of Craig's late father Dave Wheatley, the well-known and respected Secretary and Director at the former Evo-Stik NPL club who died in 2011.

More than £500 has already been raised from this summer's clash which saw former Leicester City star Gerry Taggart lead his All Stars XI to a 3-2 win over a Shepshed Dynamo XI. The charity is also leaving it's online donation page open over the coming weeks to boost the eventual funds raised ahead of next summer's presentation.

Football League officials Andy Newbold and Geoff Law returned to take charge of this year's game and were joined in the middle by Premier League assistant Sian Massey.

Wheatley, who is delighted with the event's success and growing profile, said: "We are also very grateful for the continued support of everyone and Shepshed Dynamo especially who tirelessly raise funds for various other local and national charities throughout the year."
