New Mills are now the only team who can prevent Skelmersdale United from taking the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North title after Tuesday night's action saw Skem win again, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Millers beat Goole AFC on Monday night and stay in contention with three games in hand on the three sides immediately above them.

Skem increased their lead at the top of the table to nineteen points after easing to a 2-0 win over lowly Wakefield at the West Lancs College Stadium. Dale Wright gave Tommy Lawson's side an early third minute lead that Tony Evans eventually doubled on 67 minutes.

Cammell Laird, chasing a play-off place themselves, ended Trafford's slim hopes of nicking the title with a crucial 1-0 win at Shawe View. However, Lairds will have mixed feelings about the win, courtesy of a 79th minute strike from substitute Mike Grogan, as they had both Steve Ferrigan and striker Craig Cairns dismissed.

Ramsbottom United are now second after hammering Salford City 5-1 at the Riverside. Dominic Smalley gave Rammy a terrific start with a goal inside two minutes and it was all over as a contest by the half-hour mark as the hosts led 4-0 with further goals from Lee Gaskell on 13 and 30 minutes and Grant Spencer on 15.

Andy Dawson made it nap three minutes after the break, with Nathan McDonald replying for out-of-form Salford just past the hour-mark.

Clitheroe boosted their play-off hopes with a 3-1 win at Stainton Park against inconsistent Radcliffe Borough who led through Matthew Chadwick's 20th minute effort. Ross Dent equalised eight minutes before half-time and then the Blues won it with goals from Scott Bakkor on 74 minutes and Daley Woods five minutes from time.

Ossett Albion gained a much-needed win at Station View against Harrogate Railway Athletic to move above Goole into third-bottom spot. Albion's goals were scored by Dale Kelly after 24 minutes, Tyrone Gay on 47 and Marc Thompson three minutes later. Jesus Samuel Martin-Farina sandwiched Rail's reply on 33 minutes.
