Tuesday's First Division North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Supporters of Northwich Victoria must be wondering `what if` after their side extended their unbeaten run to thirteen games in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North on Tuesday night to dent Bamber Bridge`s play-off hopes, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Vics were many pundits' choice as potential title winners in pre-season, but a dreadful run and off-field wrangles left them pottering around in the lower reaches of the table for the majority of the season.

However, the arrival of Jim Gannon as boss has revitalised them. Although it has come too late to help them this season, if they can keep this momentum going into next season, they will definitely be a force to be reckoned with.

Two goals in a minute midway through the first half from Danny Meadowcroft and Josh Amis set Vics on their way to victory against a Brig side who came to Flixton in fourth place, three points clear of sixth-placed Ramsbottom United.

Brian Summerskill increased the home side`s lead from the spot on the hour-mark before Matt Lawlor missed the opportunity to get his side back into the game when his spot-kick was saved by Northwich `keeper Tim Deasy. And right on time, Abou Sanogo`s powerful effort sealed an ultimately comfortable victory for Vics.
