Tuesday's First Division North review

By David Watters

Clitheroe moved into fifth place in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table on Tuesday night after edging a best-of-seven game at Ramsbottom United, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Rammy were also looking to maintain their upward curve and took a fourth minute lead through Ryan Salmon. Luke Wall equalised after 32 minutes and 10 minutes after the break, Kurt Willoughby put the Blues in front.

Wall added his second and the visitors` third on 58 minutes but Paul Linwood reduced the arrears six minutes later and Gareth Seddon equalised on 73 minutes. A second for Willoughby nine minutes from the end sealed Clitheroe`s win and knocked Lancashire rivals Colne, whose game was postponed, out of the top five.

Scarborough Athletic, still reeling from the sad death of their chairman Dave Holland this week, were also looking to put pressure on the top five but had to make do with a point from a goalless Queensgate draw with fourth-placed Ossett Town.

However, performance of the evening has to be Prescot Cables` 2-0 home win over third-placed Trafford.

The visitors could have moved into second spot with a win but instead Cables, who started the evening third-bottom, moved up a place with goals from Dale Wright from the penalty spot after 20 minutes and Dominic Reid seven minutes into the second half.
