Tuesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Matlock Town moved into third place in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win at the appropriately-named Stormy Corner against bottom side Skelmersdale United, writes by Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Top scorer Marcus Dinanga broke the deadlock to give the Gladiators a 54th minute lead. Paul Ennis then doubled the visitors` lead on the hour-mark to ensure the points went back to Matlock.

Spennymoor Town moved into ninth place in the table after beating lowly Marine AFC 2-1 at the Brewery Field.

An early third minute Adam Hughes own goal gave Moors a lift. However, they weren`t able to capitalise on that and Kenny Strickland equalised 10 minutes before half-time. The majority in the crowd of 472 were about to exit the stadium when Kallum Griffiths pounced to net Moors` winner three minutes from time.

Barwell could have moved to within a point of fifth-placed Nantwich Town had they managed to beat fifth-bottom Frickley Athletic. Instead, the Blues followed up last weekend`s win with a 2-1 success at Kirkby Road to move out of the drop zone, three points ahead of Corby Town, who slip back into the bottom four.

Joe Pugh has proven to be a good signing for Frickley and he gave them a 28th minute lead. Callum Ball equalised though six minutes after the break, with Frickley`s winner coming seven minutes from time, courtesy of Luke Mangham.

Rushall Olympic ended a run of seven games without a win to beat rivals Stafford Rangers 1-0 at Dales Lane to rekindle their top five hopes.

Aaron Forde`s early 4th minute penalty eventually proved enough for the Pics, who are only three points behind the play-off places, despite that poor run.

Second-bottom Ilkeston FC, who won in Shaun Goater`s first game in charge last Saturday, lost 2-0 at the New Manor Ground to a Hednesford Town side who are now only five points behind the top five, a brace from Tom Thorley in the 47th and 90th minutes winning it for the Pitmen.
