Tuesday's First Division North review

By David Watters

The EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division North title race turned in Lancaster City`s favour on Tuesday night and without them setting foot on the pitch, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Farsley Celtic were looking to move three points clear of the Dolly Blues in top spot when they entertained Clitheroe side still harbouring hopes of making the top five themselves. And they boosted their hopes with a 4-2 win at Throstle Nest, doing their Lancashire neighbours a favour at the same time.

It started well enough for the Yorkshire side, who led through Ian Rowlands` ninth minute own goal. Charlie Russell sent the Blues into the break on level terms when he equalised in the 34th minute and three minutes after the restart, Russell scored his second to put the visitors in front.

Bradley Carroll stretched that lead to 3-1 with 65 minutes gone, only for Richard Marshall to reduce the deficit with a couple of minutes to go. But Kurt Willoughby ensured the points went west over the Pennines with a stoppage time fourth.

Third-placed Trafford suffered a 4-3 defeat at Tadcaster Albion.

The visitors led with goals from Andy Keogh after nine minutes and Craig Lindfield 40 minutes later. But Taddy hit back with three goals in nine minutes midway through the second half from Carl Stewart with two and Gregg Anderson. Mark Derbyshire equalised on 83 minutes, but Tadcaster won it with an 89th minute Josh Greening goal.

Radcliffe Borough look just about safe now after a 2-1 Stainton Park win against fellow strugglers Ossett Albion lifted them nine points above second-bottom Goole AFC, while Albion are eight points above.

Rob Bordman gave the visitors a 25th minute lead that Elliot Rokka cancelled out seven minutes before the break. Right on half-time, Lewis Reilly scored what proved to be Boro`s winner.

Elsewhere, Matt Beadle gave Hyde United a 17th minute lead at Parkside against Kendal Town, who equalised 15 minutes from time through Sam Bailey in the evening`s other game.
