Rainworth Miners Welfare soared to fourth place in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier First Division South on Tuesday night after a 2-1 win at Christchurch Meadow against neighbouring Belper Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The depleted Wrens came back from conceding an early third minute Stephen Warne goal with a well-taken 65th minute equaliser from Ricky Hanson, this after the Nailers were reduced to ten-men when Karl Colley received two yellow cards on 54 minutes.

Then former Nailer Jordan Turner hit the winner from the penalty spot two minutes from time after being fouled by home keeper David Ratcliffe, leaving Rainworth now unbeaten in seven games.

Kidsgrove Athletic were on the wrong end of a 6-1 thrashing at Chasetown last Saturday but recovered well to win the derby against Newcastle Town at The Seddon Stadium.

Grove got off to a great start when Andy Kinsey put them in front inside the first minute. But Matt Lowe equalised on 43 minutes, only for the home side to re-take the lead right on the stroke of half-time.

John Johnston then bagged a brace for Grove in the 69th and 80th minutes to earn local bragging rights.
