Tuesday's First Division South action review

By David Watters

EVO-STIK NPL First Division South

The only game in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South on Tuesday night was a significant one as it saw Newcastle Town move to the top of the table after edging out Tividale 2-1 at The Beeches, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Castle got off to a great start when Ben Mills gave them an early second minute lead. But just six minutes later Tividale were back on level terms thanks to Karl Edwards.

An unfortunate own goal then put the visitors ahead - Elliot Osborne`s cross ending with Mark Smith smashing the ball past his own keeper in trying to clear. Despite throwing everything at Newcastle in search of the equaliser, a combination of a well-organised defence and the absence of a lucky break kept the Staffordshire side's goal intact.
