Tuesday's First Division South review

By David Watters

Spalding United maintained leadership of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South table after winning 2-1 at Christchurch Meadow against Belper Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

An Eric Graves own goal set the Tulips up after 35 minutes. After Alex Steadman had equalised from the penalty spot just before half-time it looked as though a draw was on the cards but Nathan Stainfield popped up with Spalding`s winner in injury-time.

Shaw Lane AFC remain in second spot after a 2-0 home win against Basford United.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, the second period was only eight minutes old when Jack Tuohy broke the deadlock to give Shaw Lane the lead. And a Dean Meikle own goal with 11 minutes to go settled the outcome.

Loughborough Dynamo`s improvement continued and they are now sixth after Sean Phillips` 75th minute goal eventually proved enough to see off Sheffield at the Nanpantan Sports Ground.

Surprise strugglers Northwich Victoria picked up a fourth point of the campaign to date, but remain win-less after a 1-1 draw at Chasetown.

Ryan Wynter gave the Scholars the boost of an early 2nd minute lead that Jamie Hinchcliffe eventually cancelled out with nine minutes of the game to go.

Bedworth United`s second win of the campaign came at the Oval against fifth-placed Romulus.

All the goals came in the second period, with the Greenbacks taking a 2-0 lead with Dan Creaney on 49 minutes and Jordan Archer on 63 minutes. Yohan Rutty-Smith immediately reduced the arrears, only for Creaney again on 76 minutes and Nathan McGarrity on 84 minutes to take Bedworth out of reach, although Ricky Hill did manage a second for Roms in stoppage time.
