Witton Albion did their Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division survival hopes a power of good with a 2-1 win against Stamford AFC at Wincham Park on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.
Albion began the evening six points behind fifth-bottom Barwell with three games in hand, while the visiting Daniels had pulled themselves up to fifteenth in the table, six points ahead of Barwell and Buxton. But the defeat – and Barwell`s draw – leaves the Lincolnshire outfit still looking over their shoulders.
Scott Bakkor crucially gave Witton the lead right on half-time. And just two minutes after the break the lead was doubled, courtesy of Josh Hancock. Jordan Smith did manage to reduce the deficit on 68 minutes, but Albion held firm for three vital points.
In Tuesday's other fixture, Barwell obtained a hard-earned point from a goalless draw at Dales Lane against a Rushall Olympic side whose play-off hopes have probably disappeared.
However, considering they had veteran striker Dele Adebola sent-off after 39 minutes, the Pics were probably happy to settle for a share of the spoils.
