Veteran striker boosts Wire

Warrington Town's Chairman Gary Skentelbery has hailed veteran striker Mark Beesley's arrival ahead of the Wire's Tuesday night Evo-Stik NPL First Division North clash at Ramsbottom United.

Warrington manager Shaun Reid moved to strengthen his strike force by signing Beesley from Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division Nantwich Town, initially on a month's loan deal, and Skentelbery said: "It is great to have such an experienced striker on board at the club and we hope Mark enjoys his time at Warrington Town. He is a proven goal scorer and will add to the manager's options up front."

The 31-year-old striker, pictured, started his career at Preston North End, signing a professional contract in June 1999. He subsequently spent three and a half seasons at Chester City, scoring 16 goals in the 2001–02 season to help Chester avoid relegation from the Football Conference.

After a spell out on loan at Southport, Beesley was allowed to join Chester's title rivals Hereford United in December 2003. He went on to join Forest Green Rovers in June 2004 where he was initially unlucky with injuries, missing nearly an entire season with a knee injury.

In August 2006 he returned to the North West for a loan spell with Lancaster City before returning to Forest Green where he enjoyed better luck second time around after striking up a strong partnership with the prolific scorer Stuart Fleetwood.

He signed for Cambridge United in January 2008 for a five-figure fee and in July 2010 switched to newly-promoted Conference Premier side Fleetwood Town. In July 2011 Beesley signed for his home town town club Burscough, scoring 13 times for the Evo-Stik NPL First Division North outfit before switching to Hednesford Town in January this year and then Nantwich in the summer where he scored on the opening day of the season during their 5-0 win at Matlock Town.
