Vow to ban fans throwing flares

Angry Stourbridge have vowed to ban the fans throwing flares and smoke bombs during last Saturday's EVO-STIK League derby with Halesowen Town.

The Glassboys are working with the Yeltz and the police to identify those responsible after a visiting female supporter was hit by a flare or a smoke bomb at the War Memorial Athletic Ground and suffered burns to her neck during the 2-1 win for the visitors.

A bumper crowd of 2,306 turned out for the derby and the EVO-STIK League Premier Division club's board of directors issued a statement this week reminding supporters of their responsibilities and the penalties the culprits face as they prepared to host Macclesfield Town in the Fourth Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup this weekend.

The statement from the Glassboys board read: "The club wishes to express its anger over the events of Saturday where two flares/smoke bombs were thrown during the course of the match, the second resulting in a lady supporting Halesowen Town suffering burns to the neck.

"Stourbridge FC will work alongside our close neighbours Halesowen Town, K2 Security Services and West Midlands Police in identifying those who are responsible for throwing the flares. The club will ban those responsible and wish to remind people that throwing a flare can result in a custodial sentence. The club is now awaiting reports from the FA and the Police."
