Wednesday's First South review

By David Watters

Romulus left it late to beat Northwich Victoria and win their second game of the new EVO-STIK Northern Premier League season on Wednesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

After finishing third in the EVO-STIK NPL's First Division North last term and losing the play-off final to Spennymoor Town, Vics now have only a point after the reverse

Clubs with 3G pitches are often accused of having an unfair advantage but the Roms have now won both their games on the road with their 3G pitch at Coles Lane temporarily out of action.

Having won at Sheffield FC last weekend, Romulus fell behind five minutes before half-time to a Daniel Cockerline effort. But just past the hour-mark, Eddy Santos equalised when he managed to charge down an attempted clearance by the home keeper Mason Springthorpe and the ball bounced into the empty net.

Fifteen minutes from time, Roms had Montel Gibson sent-off for a second bookable offence. Then, in the third minute of stoppage time, the ten-men won it when Ricky Hill headed across goal for Liam Hailey to finish from six yards with a diving header.
