Wednesday's Premier Division action review

Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division

It's heading towards a really exciting final couple of weeks for supporters of Hednesford Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Pitmen moved level on points with the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Premier Division leaders North Ferriby United on Wednesday night following a 2-0 win at play-off chasers Buxton. They also have two cup finals to look forward to too.

Ferriby hold a far superior goal difference, so still head the table, but Hednesford kept up the pressure with three vital points gained at Silverlands with two stunning goals.

The first came after 15 minutes when Michael Lennon fired home from 25 yards. The second arrived just past the hour-mark to kill the game off and this too was a goal worthy of winning any game – Kris Taylor firing in with a powerfully struck free-kick.

The Pitmen have difficult-looking away games at Ilkeston FC and high-flying AFC Fylde to come, as well as a home match against relegation-battlers Stocksbridge Park Steels. Rivals Ferriby have Marine away and then Chorley and Ashton United at home.

Hednesford then face league rivals Rushall Olympic in the Staffs Senior Cup final at Port Vale next week and then NPL First Division South outfit Sutton Coldfield Town in the Birmingham Senior Cup final at Walsall on April 30th.

In the other Premier Division game on Wednesday night, Whitby Town moved up to twelfth after easing to a 4-0 Turnbull Ground win over fellow mid-table side Stafford Rangers.

Whitby were in the bottom three for long periods of the season, so will be delighted to be heading for a mid-table finish.

Ibrahim Hassan broke the deadlock by giving the Seasiders a 64th minute lead that Craig Farrell doubled in the 78th minute. Nathan Mulligan made it game over with number three eight minutes from time, with Tom Portas adding a fourth in injury-time.
