AFC Fylde put pressure on both leaders Chorley and second-placed FC United of Manchester after comprehensively beating Blyth Spartans 5-1 in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Premier Division on Wednesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Spartans, whose own play-off hopes disappeared following a four-game win-less run that preceded this game, fell behind after 15 minutes when Michael Barnes finished well from 10 yards. And the Coasters doubled their lead after 27 minutes when Harry Winter fired past Spartans` keeper Conor Grant from 20 yards.

The visitors had a great opportunity to get back into the game after 37 minutes when Ashley Davis was brought down in the area by Russell but Paul Robinson`s penalty was tipped round the post by Coasters` goalkeeper Ben Hinchcliffe.

Six minutes into the second half and it was virtually game over when Fylde were awarded a spot-kick after Danny Lloyd-McGoldrick was bundled over. The victim dusted himself down before firing home.

On 79 minutes Spartans reduced the arrears when Arjun Purewal headed home before the scoreline was given a rather more flattering look when the home side bagged two more goals in the final five minutes, Lloyd-McGoldrick and Joey Mullen making it a nap hand.

Fylde are now level on points with FC United and three behind Chorley with all three having three more matches left.

Worksop Town won 1-0 at Rossett Park against lowly Marine AFC to ensure a play-off place at the end of the season.

The only goal of the game came after 10 minutes when Shane Clarke netted from close range after good work from Phil Roe. The defeat means the Mariners still require at least one more win to ensure safety.

Wednesday's other game saw Whitby Town beat fellow mid-table outfit Buxton 1-0 at the Turnbull Ground, the only goal here coming after only six minutes through Lee Mason.
