West Round-up: Radcliffe bounce back

By James Gordon

Radcliffe bounced back from their Boxing Day disappointment to keep up the pressure on league leaders Runcorn Linnets in the EVO-STIK League West Division.

Tunde Owolabi plundered a first half hat-trick as they beat Trafford 3-0, a result which sees Trafford drop to ninth.

Leek Town are one of the form sides in the division and they elevated in to the play-off places with a 4-1 win over Newcastle Town in front of a crowd of 401.

Daniel Trickett-Smith and Tim Grice had them two goals up at the break, and though Connor Heath pulled one back at the start of the second half, Leek proved too strong.

Rob Stevenson restored their two goal advantage before Trickett-Smith added his second late on.

Atherton Collieries put their indifferent form behind them with an excellent 3-0 win away at Ramsbottom United.

After a goalless first half, Connor Gaul broke the hosts resolve after 55 minutes, and they added further goals from Tom Bentham and Ben Conway, to move within two points of Runcorn at the top.

Mossley are on the cusp of the play-offs after winning 1-0 at home to Droylsden, thanks to Ben Halfacre’s goal on the hour, while Widnes bounced back from successive defeats to win 2-0 at Market Drayton Town thanks to Dale Korie-Butler and Ben Hodkinson.

Kendal Town edged four points clear of bottom placed Skelmersdale United thanks to a 2-2 draw at home to Clitheroe.

Scott Harries gave them an early lead, but Max Hazeldine’s brace turned things around. But the Mintcakes earned only their 12th point of the season thanks to Harries’ 89th minute equaliser.

Glossop North End recorded only their third win of the season, Jack Tuohy’s goal enough to beat play-off chasing Colne.

Elsewhere, Anthony Malbon rescued a point for Kidsgrove Athletic in a 1-1 draw at home to Chasetown.
