Worksop Town

Golfing superstar Lee Westwood is sponsoring former EVO-STIK League club Worksop Town next season.

The Tigers - rebuilding in the Northern Counties East League after resigning from the EVO-STIK League's top flight in May - announced on Wednesday that one of the club's most famous sons, pictured, will be sponsoring their home and away kits.

Delighted officials say news that the logo of the 41-year-old's Lee Westwood’s Golf School will be adorning their kit would give everyone at the embattled club a 'huge lift'.

Kev Keep, Chairman of the Worksop Town Supporters Trust, said: "It’s fantastic news for the fans, and Worksop in general, to see such a high profile sportsman backing the Tigers. His management team have been an absolute pleasure to work with."

The Worksop Guardian helped secure the deal with Westwood and the golfer said: "Worksop will always be my home, people will always associate me with my home town and I’m proud of my roots. I was sorry to hear that the town’s football club were in such a perilous situation. Worksop Town are the world’s fourth oldest club and their history and position in the heart of the community should be safeguarded."
