Widnes strengthen in defence

Widnes have confirmed the signing of defender Matthew Rain from Bootle.

The 21-year-old began his playing career with Liverpool’s youth setup before making a switch to Burnley in 2018.

He later had a spell for FC United of Manchester and joined the Bucks from Curzon Ashton ahead of the 2021 season.

The young full-back appeared 12 times for Bootle this season, and will look to continue his run of consistent game time with the Whites.

As it stands, Widnes currently sit last in the Pitching In Northern Premier West Division, with eight points from 11 games this campaign.

Rain will look to make his home debut later this evening in their league clash with Clitheroe.

In other news, Widnes have also announced that Max Bardsley-Rowe has extended his loan deal with the club until January.

The winger has netted twice for the club in six games this season, and he will look to add to his tally going forward.
