Woodhouse throws in the towel

Sheffield FC have parted company with manager Curtis Woodhouse.

The Evo-Stik NPL First Division South club announced the football manager turned professional boxer's resignation on Friday morning.

Sheffield were beaten 5-1 at home by Belper Town on Boxing Day and the club say Woodhouse cited difficulties combining his boxing and football careers as one of the reasons for his exit. Sheffield's General Manager Ian Whitehorne takes charge for Saturday's home fixture against Gresley with player coach Vill Powell assisting him.

Sheffield wished their former manager, pictured, well in a statement released shortly after his exit on the club's official website. Woodhouse is now expected to concentrate on his career inside the ring as Sheffield Chairman Richard Tims gets the hunt to find his replacement at Dronfield underway.

Sheffield Secretary Stephen Hall said: "He was finding it difficult to combine his career as a professional boxer with the demands of Non-League management. The club was sad to accept his resignation but wish Curtis every success with his boxing."

Friday's club statement read: "It is with regret that Sheffield FC announce the resignation of first team manager Curtis Woodhouse. Curtis has found it difficult to manage a professional boxing career with the time pressures of Non-League football management. The club wishes Curtis good luck for the future."
