Glossop North End appoint new manager

Worthington was most recently a first team coach at Clitheroe under current manager David Dempsey, taking over the reins of the U23 squad.

Since 2020, he has led Clitheroe's U23 side to two league titles and boasted a win percentage of 71%.

During his tenure at the Blues, four players from the U23 squad signed first team contracts, with a total of 12 players making their senior debut from Worthington's side.

Worthington fills the role that was left vacant following Stuart Mellish's departure after the Hillmen were relegated from the Northern Premier League West Division.

On his move to Glossop North End, Worthington said: "Firstly, I’m absolutely delighted to be given this opportunity to manage Glossop North End. I believe football should be enjoyable, both on and off the pitch.

"I want everyone involved with the football club to enjoy their time with us. I aim to produce a team that entertains the fans, but also interacts and engages with them whilst being able to get results when it matters.

"I am a very hands-on manager both on and off the pitch. Having witnessed myself the atmosphere and the buzz that the GNE fans can create on a matchday, I know that together, we can get the place rocking and bring Surrey Street back to being a place that is difficult to come to.

"After GNE’s disappointing relegation from the Northern Premier League, I believe the club needs a manager that can bring a positive energy and change the direction of the club."
