Premier Division preview: Shields out to extend lead, battles galore in play-off picture

By James Gordon

There’s a full house of Northern Premier League fixtures this weekend, with several mouth-watering ties to look forward to.

League leaders South Shields will visit a Warrington Rylands side still looking for their next permanent manager following the recent departure of Jody Banim.

Rylands have slipped away from the top five in recent weeks and will be keen to close that gap, while Shields could finish the weekend as many as 11 points clear at the top of the division.

Meanwhile, Hyde United will look to keep pace with the Mariners as they visit a Marske United side beaten heavily by Gainsborough Trinity in midweek.

There are two other fixtures with big ramifications for the current play-off picture.

Third-placed Warrington Town visit a Matlock Town side aiming to return to the top five with a win, while fourth and sixth do battle at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium as Bamber Bridge and Gainsborough prepare to lock horns.

All fixtures will take place on Saturday 11 February at 3pm, unless stated otherwise.
