History

Ossett United was founded in the summer of 2018 following the merger of Ossett Albion and Ossett Town. Both Ossett Town and Ossett Albion managed to gain Northern Premier League status and maintain that level of football for a remarkable time period. Battling each year to survive in the league and, infrequently, even challenging for a promotion spot.

Over the years, talk of merging the clubs had been flirted with and advance talks even took place but to no avail as the officials failed to reach an amicable solution. Queue 2018 and a discussion between both clubs taking place on the 4th of January after an Ossett Town Juniors match where the son of John and Emma Chidlaw, Albion owners, along with Lee Summerscales, played in a game refereed by Ossett Town vice-chairman Lee Broadbent who ran the operations of Town alongside James and Dawn Rogers.

As a result, on June 1 2018 after six months of hard graft and passing the FA ratification process the new Ossett United Football Club was born. With a clear vision for stability and progression, the owners, along with Phil Smith the chief executive officer and Steve Hanks, club secretary, worked tirelessly to bring this new entity to life.

The project is a constant work in progress and part of the club's constitution states that no huge cash injection in future years can leave the club vulnerable or dependent on the whims of a wealthy investor. Instead, a carefully engineered progression involving the experience and business acumen the board have at their disposal is planned.

Money is available for essential spending and immediate development requirements but the business plan that is in place focuses around making the club self-sustaining and ultimately becoming a stable run business. Exciting times lay ahead for football in Ossett and with the combination of the board and the fantastic volunteers the future looks very bright indeed as the club kicks off in 2018-19 EVO-STIK League season.
